Confederate Memorial Day observed at Four Mile Cemetery

John L. Patterson Chapter 2682, United Daughters of the Confederacy, sponsored a Wreath Ceremony for Confederate Memorial Day on Tuesday, June 3, at Four Mile Cemetery northwest of Campbell. President Mary Bess Green welcomed the attendees including Missouri Division President Judy Frerking of Marshall, Missouri., and Division Registrar Velma Cole of Florence, Missouri.

Small groups of Northeast Arkansas’ Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) young leaders chatted as they awaited the judges’ visit for Casey and Jade Simpson Farm Family selection. As they sought just a bit of shade on the especially hot day on that June afternoon, they were overheard, “He’s never met a challenge he’d walk away from,” they said, speaking of Casey Simpson. Several of those in discussion were alumni of Simpson’s Piggott Chapter of FFA, the role he found rewarding and fulfilling after being under the tutelage of Chris Ward, his own FFA adviser when Simpson was at Nettleton High School as a student.

PHS class of 1968 get-together set

Casey Simpson’s daily walk cultivates positive relationships. His students respect him, admire him, saying, “He talks a lot, but it’s interesting and everybody listens.” Other former students who are in the natural resources conservation business said, “He’s a go-getter, always doing something productive, always active. It’s a good thing Jade is an active type person, too.”
