Ladyman represents Clay County
The Arkansas Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS) in partnership with the Arkansas Association of Area Agencies on Aging (5A) hosted the 22nd Biennial Silver Haired Legislative Session (SHLS) on Aug. 17 and 18.
FAFSA worknight planned at Rector High School
Rector High School has scheduled a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) work night from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the computer lab and will have representatives from ASU on campus to help students one-on-one. “It takes about 45 mins to work through the process IF they have all the needed documents with them,” commented RHS career coach Kathy Fowler.

RHS teachers share college encouragement with students
The 2022 college application campaign season has arrived. #WhyApply Day kicks off the application season and provides encouragement for students. This is part of an initiative to support students through the college application process, especially first-generation college students and those from lowincome families who may not otherwise apply to college. Six teachers from RHS was asked to share something they learned in college. “For our purposes, “college” refers to ANY additional training/education one might need to obtain a desired career. This includes welding school, beauty school, etc. RHS is committed to encouraging applications to all types of additional training needed to pursue the career of choice,” commented RHS career coach Kathy Fowler.
RES TEACHER OF THE MONTH
Melinda Hobbs was recently chosen as Teacher of the Month for Rector Elementary. Her nomination came from a fellow teacher and stated,“Mrs. Hobbs has done an amazing job at implementing Universal Design for Learning techniques. She is good at accommodating and modifying her lessons to meet the needs of each of her students. She always has a can-do attitude and puts in the extra effort for her students. She does all of this while still completing all the other demands of being a teacher. She can inspire any teacher who believes doing it all is impossible.” She received a certificate and $10 Caffeinated Cow gift card. (Courtesy photo)

Telescope available for check out at Piggott Public Library
The Piggott Public Library will be checking out a telescope to patrons to help improve an interest in Astronomy. Through a grant in cooperation with the Arkansas Natural Sky Association and theArkansas Space Grant consortium, the library has one Orion Star Blast 4.5 inch Astronomical telescope. This telescope may be checked out for a period of one week at no cost to the library card holders.
