The 5th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 17. The racecourse will be a mix of road and off-road running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner are happy to announce the dinner will once again take place. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 5, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area businesses. Rector businesses include Above & Beyond, Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, OHP-Our Happy Place, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and The Vintage Junkie.

Eddie and Jeanette Martin, formerly of Rector, will be honored with a drop-in celebration at the First General Baptist Church of Rector from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4. All friends and family are invited to attend.

Plans are underway for a reunion of all descendants and relatives of the late Newton Jasper McCoy and Arthur Collier. The event will take place from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Rector Community Center. Everyone is asked to bring a dish and enjoy the fellowship.
