Annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner to be held Sept. 4

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner are happy to announce the dinner will once again take place. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

Quilting workshop planned

Quilting, a popular pastime, joined together not only pieces of fabric, but people’s lives. With this in mind, a Beginners Quilting Workshop has been planned at Powhatan Historic State Park. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, and the registration fee is $15. Organizers note participants will learn the basics of quilting: from piecing the squares, layering the quilt, and the quilting stitch. Fee includes all materials and class size is limited. McCoy and Collier reunion planned

Plans are underway for a reunion of all descendants and relatives of the late Newton Jasper McCoy and Arthur Collier. The event will take place from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Rector Community Center. Everyone is asked to bring a dish and enjoy the fellowship. Clay County Fair t-shirts available through Aug. 1
