The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture will present topics of interest to homeowner and gardeners beginning at noon Friday, April 5. The meeting will take place at the Rector Public Library located at 121 W. 4th St. The meetings will continue weekly based on the amount of interest from the community.
The Clay County Fair Board held their regular monthly meeting Monday, March 11 at the fair kitchen. During the meeting it was noted that the fairgrounds will be open for primitive camping during the weekend prior to the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. The fairgrounds will also be hosting a variety of events on Sunday, April 7, including an outdoor church service, and a family friendly movie under the stars beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In about a month, a total solar eclipse will leave Jonesboro and surrounding areas in total darkness for about two and a half minutes. As a way to provide a resource for both fun and learning, Arkansas State University will host “Howl at the Sun” on Monday, April 8, from 10 a.m.
Piggott Elementary School will be enrolling children eligible for kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27. The registration will be held in the PES parent center.
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will host Movies on the Lawn at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5. The featured movie will be October Sky, a movie based on a true story of Homer Hickam, a NASA engineer. As a teenager in 1957, Hickam and his friends began designing their own rockets. The event is sponsored by Piggott State Bank and is free to the public. Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chair and join in the celebration of the Great Solar Eclipse.
