1983 Mr. Woody Priest, agriculture teacher at Greenway High School, with the help of one of his students, saved the life of another student Thursday, September 15. Matt McCluskey, a sixteenyear0old senior, suffered an apparent cardiac arrest. Priest acted quickly administering mouth to mouth and was assisted by Matt Hollis, who massaged the heart until together they restored respiration and heartbeat.

“Blame it all on (the late) Reuben Seay,” quipped Nita Bowden who told of Hutie Bowden’s first interest in fighting fire with the Rector Fire Department. She smiled as Hutie completed the story of how he and John Seay, Carolyn and Reuben’s son, grew up together, spending time at the Seay house.
Arkansans can celebrate a century of Arkansas State Parks with the “100 Hours of Centennial Service” Program. Lake Frierson State Park will host a Centennial Day of Service from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the park. Hours can be counted towards the Centennial Program and prizes. Volunteer activities available include the construction of a new pollinator garden in the day use area, trail pickup, highway litter pickup, and lake shoreline pickup. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.
A special exhibit featuring the likeness of Ernest Hemingway will be available from Sept. 1 through Oct. 20 at Arkansas State University Museum. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays.
