Piggott plans city wide yard sale
In response to popular demand, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a fall city wide yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 7. As with the spring event, the yard sale fee will be waived by the City of Piggott for that day and a list of participating locations will be available from the Chamber of Commerce. Those wanting to include their sale on the list may call the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce during regular business hours at 870-598-3167 or email chamberpg@yahoo.com. Those who prefer may stop by the chamber office at 100 W. Main.
Clay County Fair Parade entries being sought
The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
Demolition derby set Sept. 16 at fairground
A demolition derby will be held Saturday, Sept.16 in conjunction with the Clay County Fair. The event will be held at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Peewee starts at 6:30 p.m. and the adult competition at 7 p.m. Those who want more information may call Rick Hardy at 573-344-1110.
NEA Chorale commences new season at WBU
The melodies of the NEA Chorale are set to resonate once again as they mark the beginning of an exciting new season. The Chorale, renowned for its vibrant and diverse vocal performances, invites singers of all ages to join their ranks for a season of musical excellence and camaraderie.
Lake Frierson State Park to host Centennial Day of Service
Arkansans can celebrate a century of Arkansas State Parks with the “100 Hours of Centennial Service” Program. Lake Frierson State Park will host a Centennial Day of Service from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the park. Volunteer activities available include the construction of a new pollinator garden in the day use area, trail pickup, highway litter pickup, and lake shoreline pickup. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.
Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention planned
The Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16. The event is being held at the New Covenant Church located at 3396 Kanell Blvd. (PP Hwy.) in Poplar Bluff, Mo. MC’s will be Joyce and Ron Fowler of 89.5 FM and Rick Jones of 106.1 FM. Eight special guests will be featured nightly. Everyone is welcome to attend.

1983 Miss Ruth Gwin, retired Piggott librarian passed away August 30, 1983 at the age of 85. Gwin retired from the library on March 7, 1965.
