With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 4, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) Communications Specialist Jessica Rainwater was recently awarded two Arkansas Associated Press Awards at the annual 2023 Arkansas Associated Press Association Conference.
The annual Greenway School reunion will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Piggott Diner. Organizers encourage all former students to attend. Those wanting information may contact Jane Cook at 870 3240236.
The Clay County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the commercial building on the Clay County Fairgrounds. Vendor fee is set at $35 with community entry fee being a small donation to the Clay County Junior Fair Board Scholarship Fund. Small concessions will be available. In keeping with event tradition, a full slate of pageants will be held in conjunction with the 2023 edition of the Rector Labor Day Picnic. This year’s pageants are scheduled for both Sunday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 4, on the beauty revue stand of Memorial Park. Pageant organizer Jade Simpson noted that the Petite Miss, Preteen Miss and Junior Miss Rector pageants are closed to Rector students only until Aug. 25. “If we do not have enough participants by the deadline, we will then open the pageants to others,” commented Simpson.
The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
Rector School District will host Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in both the elementary and high school buildings. Teachers, counselors, and administra-tion will be available for meet and greet and to answer fundamental questions about the curriculum, parent visitation policy, and other standard questions.
