Students on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists for the spring 2023 semester at Arkansas State University have been announced. The lists recognize undergraduate students who achieved the highest gradepoint averages while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours of study.
New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard continues its Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Twist and Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870-544-2364.
The Clay County Cattlemen’s Association regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, June 15, at Cajun Dave’s in Piggott. Guest speakers will be Kelley Washburn and the meal will be provided by Nutrien Ag Solutions.
Micha Harrell of Piggott and Zane Holloway of Rector were named to the University of Central Arkansas’s spring Dean’s List. They were among more than 1300 students recognized.
The Piggott School District honored several employees at its end-of-year luncheon on Friday, starting with Principal Paul Seegraves, who will retire this year after a long career as a teacher, coach, and administrator at Piggott High School.
Rector School District held a retirement celebration Tuesday,May 30 in the high school cafeteria with staff and personnel present. Superintendent Johnny Fowler presented the honorees with a commemorative plaque and thanked each for their years of service. Lake Charles State Park will host its annual free fishing weekend derby, sponsored by theArkansas Game and Fish Commission, on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, 3705 Highway 25, Powhatan. Registration is required in person at the pavilion in the day-use area from 9 to 10 a.m.
The Rector Public Library is geared-up for a busy June and July as the Summer Reading Program returns. This year’s theme is “All Together Now – Kindness – Friendship Unity.” The programs are at 9 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June and will continue on July 12 and 19. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more.
Candy Taylor, a 1986 PHS graduate, was recently named Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center Teacher of the Year. Taylor has 32 years of teaching experience and was nominated for the award by Abby Crites, Health Occupations Instructor at Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center. “It was such an honor to receive this special recognition,” stated Taylor.
