A retirement celebration for Rick Haywood is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4 at St. Francis Baptist Church. Haywood is retiring from Black Hills Entergy Natural Gas Company after 32 years and eight months service. A meal will be provided and you are asked to RSVP to Kalee Haywood at 870-598-4880. St. Francis Baptist Church is located at 355 N. Church Street.
A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
Jacob Holmes of Rector was named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s List in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Holmes joins more than 2,000 additional Fulbright College students on the Spring 2023 Dean’s List.
Piggott Girl Scout Troop 3011 is currently selling chances for a knife raffle. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20 with each ticket purchase entitling you to three chances of winning. First prize is a custom Seth Miller knife, handmade in Boydsville, Ark., and valued at $250. Second prize is an Aitor El Montero, made in Spain and is used by Spanish Special Forces valued at $140. Third prize is a Condor Australian Army Machete. It is made in small batches in El Salvador with a value of $100. All proceeds will benefit the troop. Drawing will be held on June 16. The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould. The classic red 1957 Chevy Bel Air owned by the late Bobby Hoskins, a longtime Piggott resident, was totaled in a major auto accident in November 2020. Fortunately, Bobby was able to crawl out of the car with only minor injuries. The car has been under repair for the last two and a half years and was finally back home at the end of April. Unfortunately, due to illness in 2022, Bobby passed away before seeing the restoration completed.
Elizabeth Spinks of Piggott has been awarded the Rick Bozwell Memorial Scholarship, made possible by funding from the Knights of Columbus 2443 in Pocahontas. Spinks is a 2022 graduate of Piggott High School, and is the daughter of Joe and Tracy Spinks.
Heritage Park will come alive this weekend with the 24th annual Piggott Heritage Car Show. Entrants from several states participate every year as this is a highly anticipated event for classic and custom car lovers as well as street rods, trucks, rat rods and motorcycles of all genres.
