Piggott Health System recently announced Hattie Cate as the recipient of the 2022 Joe Metz Nursing Scholarship. She is attending Black River Technical, enrolled in the LPN Program. Hattie currently works as a PCT (Patient Care Tech) at Piggott Community Hospital, where she began her career in September 2020. Her goal is to eventually become a Nurse Practitioner.
Jacob Holmes of Rector was named to the Fall 2022 Dean’s List in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Holmes joins nearly 2,500 additional Fulbright College students on the Fall 2022 Dean’s List.
Piggott Girl Scout Troop #3011 will be hosting a 5K race fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 11. Participants may enter online or pick up an entry form at McKenney Pharmacy or the Piggott Public Library. Entry fee is $35 and includes a finisher medal and a t-shirt (while supplies last). On Friday, Feb. 17, Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) hosted BRTC’s Corporate & Community Education Department’s Pipe Welding Instructor Ty Haney.
The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University will offer several opportunities for online and on-site counseling services for small businesses in March. Participants will learn about starting and growing a small business at workshops held in several counties.
Clay County Farm Bureau President Mark Coleman recently made donations to the Piggott, Rector and Corning Elementary School’s Backpack Programs, and Ag Literacy Books “I Love Strawberries” to the Piggott, Rector and Corning Elementary Libraries along with all the county public libraries.
Arkansas State University has announced the list of students who completed degree requirements to graduate at Fall Commencement, held Dec. 17 in First National Bank Arena Chancellor Todd Shields presented diplomas at the associate, bachelor, master, specialist and doctoral levels, along with various program certificates, as awarded through the various colleges: Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College.
Throughout the remainder of the month, the Piggott and Rector Public Libraries will be observing “Fine Free February.” During the month of February library patrons may return late items without a fine, whether the item is just a few days late or more than a year. The only fines not included in the forgiveness are those currently on account which had already been accrued.
