Rector’s golden girl wows Piggott bandsman
Marching band performances at the 4th of July and Labor Day parades in Piggott and Rector placed Cathy Jane Jones and Larry Norred in the same vicinity. With one look at Cathy in her Rector Blackcat gold majorette uniform, Larry was a goner, even at age fifteen.

HPMEC reading retreat rescheduled to Sept. 22-23
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum has announced the April reading retreat has been rescheduled to Sept. 22 and Sept, 23, 2023, due to conflicts. Retirement celebration planned for Trout
After working for the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center for 20 years, guide Karen Trout is retiring. Trout commented, “I love all the visitors I get to meet. I even met Hemingway’s grandson John. I will miss all my co-workers, all of them are phenomenal.”
Zane Holloway named 2022 Presidential Scholar
Zane Holloway, of Rector, was named a fall 2022 Presidential Scholar at the University of Central Arkansas. Holloway was among nearly 1,200 students named as a UCA Presidential Scholar.

Local youth participate in real world financial management simulation
The 4H Youth Leadership Team and Rector High School seniors participated in the “Get Real” hands-on experiential simulation on Monday, Jan. 23, to gain knowledge about personal financial management. The students were introduced to the “Get Real” program by first discussing a pay stub, net versus gross pay, managing a checking account and managing a credit card.
Best Care worshop planned for childcare providers
A Best Care workshop is planned for childcare providers in Clay, Greene, Lawrence, and Randolph Counties from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, 106 E. Everett St. Class topics include body positivity, good nutrition and basic math, importance of immu-nizations, literacy in early childhood, money as you grow, guidance, kindergarten readiness, engaging children in physical activity, observation in early childhood and professionalism.
