Carter accepted into ASU Heritage program

Powhatan Historic State Park to host quilting workshop
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a quilting workshop on Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join park staff to learn how to draft a quilt block and sew your pieces together. Staff will discuss the history of quilting and quilt design. Participants will leave with their own quilt square. The registration fee is $15. Space is limited.

The Selection Committee of the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the 2025 inductees into the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame. The organization has four categories from which inductees may be selected: athletes, coaches, teams, and other.

Clay County Clash held at fairgrounds
On Saturday, June 28, the Clay County Fair Association held an open livestock show to raise funds for the Clay County Fair. Over 40 exhibitors were present for the market and breeding shows which included swine, sheep, goats and cattle. Exhibitors from Clay County took home numerous awards, as well as exhibitors from other surrounding counties.

Babysitting basics course being offered at Corning Library
Christin Holmes, Clay County Extension FCS Agent, will host a babysitting basics course for students 10 and older who are interested in babysitting. The course will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 16 through Wednesday, July 18 at the Corning Public Library located at 613 Pine Street. There is no charge for the course and you must be present all three days to receive a certificate. To register call 870-857-3453 and preregistration is required by Monday, July 14. Snacks will be provided.
Lauren Welch earns degree from CMU
Central Methodist University celebrated its Spring 2025 commencement on May 10 in Puckett Fieldhouse on the Fayette, Missouri campus. CMU alumnus Laurence Tucker ’69 gave the commencement address as a packed house of family, friends, faculty, staff, and other guests celebrated the graduates.
