Back-to-School with Love Day planned at Rector

Koss Construction Company, a group contracted by the Arkansas Department of Transportation has completed the three concrete pylons for the County Road 139 overpass over Future I-57. This construction is part of the larger Corning Bypass Project (Job No. 101172) which started in February of this year which is expected to be completed by mid-2027. County Road 139 was the road chosen from input given at the public meeting that ARDOT held on March 14, 2024, at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center to create an overpass for local traffic. County Road 143 meanwhile will soon dead end where the new road intersects with it. Utility companies have been busy both west and north of Corning relocating their lines around where the interchanges with US 67 will be built.
With back-to-school time just around the corner, another traditional event is set for the coming weekend as Arkansas will hold its annual sales tax holiday on specific items Satur-day and Sunday, Aug. 2 and 3.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Join park staff and become the judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as they bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in and interact with each other. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration fee is $25. Black River Area Development Corporation will hold a public meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 in regards to Public Transportation for 2026. The meeting will be held in person at 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas and virtually.
L&L Manquest, Joshua, Tara, Levi, Lucas White and Pilot, the family from Nevada who touched the hearts of Piggott residents as well as people across the United States, returned to Piggott for a visit on their way home. Friends the family made while here earlier gathered at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Thursday for a meet and greet question and answer session to hear about their adventures since leaving Piggott.
