Published 25 years after his death, Ernest Hemingway’s “The Garden of Eden” will be the subject of a reader’s retreat that coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) in Piggott.

Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting set for May 25
The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. Anyone interested in making a donation toward the upkeep of the cemetery may do so by contacting Perry Mills at 870-783-0109.
Decoration Day set at Shannon Cemetery
The annual Shannon Cemetery Decoration Day I set for Saturday, May 25. A potluck lunch and fellowship will be held for all family and friends. Piggott and Rector School Districts taking part in USDA Summer Feeding Program
Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federally-funded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools.
Arkansas State Trumpet Ensemble to perform at California Conference
Members of the Arkansas State Trumpet Ensemble from Arkansas State University have received the prestigious honor of being asked to perform at the 2024 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim, Calif., May 28 through June 1.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all federal, state, county and local offices will be closed on Monday, May 27. The closures include both Clay County courthouses, the three county libraries, all local city halls along with state and federal government offices.
Registration underway for HPMEC Writers’ Retreat
The summer 2024 Hemingway-Pfeiffer Writers’ Retreat for adults is scheduled June 17-21. Registration is $325. Lunch and breaks are included. Retreats are held in the Educational Center and Hemingway Barn-Studio and offer adults the opportunity to work on personal creative writing under the direction of a professional mentor.
