Graduation set at local schools

The 42 members of the Rector High School Class of 2024 will bid farewell to high school days, taking the first steps toward their lives beyond the familiar hallways and courses when they receive diplomas in graduation ceremonies beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the school gymnasium.

Stray animals a nuisance

All residents of the City of Rector are encouraged to stop feeding stray animals. Many residents have contacted Council members and the Mayor’s office regarding an abundance of stray or “feral cats” roaming the streets, digging up flower beds, hiding under vehicles, walking across vehicles, being general nuisances around town. “Stray or wandering dogs are picked up, owners are cited and fined, but stray cats are not and it’s frustrating for residents, especially those who do not have dogs or cats,” agreed council members.

Piggott gearing up for 25th Annual Heritage Car Show

Piggott and Heritage Park will soon come alive with the rumble of car engines as the Piggott Heritage Car Show hosts its 25th annual show. Entrants from several states participate every year for this highly anticipated event for street rods, classic and custom cars and trucks, as well as motorcycles of all genres For 2024 the event will be held Friday night through Sunday morning with the majority of events taking place Saturday at Heritage Park.

U.S. Department of Education launches next phase of FAFSA Student Support Strategy

The U.S. Department of Education (Department) today announced additional steps to support students and their families with the Better FAFSA. The Department is launching a multi-milliondollar program as part of the FAFSA Student Support Strategy to help school districts, state, nonprofits and other public and private organizations with efforts to boost FAFSA completion. Since the new 2024–25 FAFSA form became available on Dec. 30, more than 8.95 million forms have been successfully submitted.
