Small business owners and those who are interested in starting their own small business will have several opportunities in May to attend a free consulting session through the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University.
The Clay County Conservation District and the Clay County NRCS office will host a locally led work group meeting at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 2, at the Piggott Fire Station located at 363 W. Jackson Street in Piggott.

High winds during the burning of a field resulted in the loss of a tractor and heavy damage to a grain cart parked at Big Slough ditch levee on Saturday, April 13. The equipment belonged to Alred Hinson of Hinson Farms.
1984 The Piggott senior high band competed in the Arkansas State band contest April 16 and received a third division or “good” rating. The PHS band was part of 69 of the top bands in Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture will present topics of interest to homeowner and gardeners beginning at noon on Fridays. The meeting will take place at the Rector Public Library located at 121 W. 4th St. The meetings will continue weekly based on the amount of interest from the community.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, April 15, 2024, at approximately 3:20 p.m., 38 yearold Brian J. Crosskno of Kennett was arrested on Warren St. in St. Francis. Crosskno had been making threats and harassing a resident on Warren St. since at least April 4. The Sheriff’s Department had obtained three felony warrants on the subject. Crosskno was back at the residence making threats when deputies arrived and took him into custody. Crosskno is currently in-carcerated at the Clay County Detention Center on $10,000.00 cash only bond. He is charged with Criminal Mischief – first degree/property of another value $500 or more, Terroristic Threatening – first degree/threatens physical injury, burglary, residential, possession of SCH I or II LT 2 gm, tampering with physical evidence.
Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the winter energy assistance program will close on Tuesday, April 30. Applications for energy assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m., on Mondays and Tuesdays, at the BRAD Senior Center in Corning, Lawrence County Public Library and BRAD central office in Pocahontas.
