Rep. Crawford searching for student artist

A colored pencil drawing of combat boots draped with dog tags, a painting reflecting the anxiety a student felt during COVID, and hundreds of torn magazine pieces glued to create a portrait of a basketball player, all winning artworks previously chosen by Representative Rick Crawford to represent Arkansas’s First District in a national artwork display in Washington D.C.

Acts of Kindness second nature for Smith

Unaware of each other’s ideas, five people, at separate times, wrote personal testimonies on behalf of local philanthropist, auction owner, volunteer, and angel to many, Mavis Smith, for Channel 8’s recognition through the Great Acts of Kindness program. Melinda Dillon of Paragould, Pat Mabrey, Ken Price, Carolyn Barker, and Jane Gatewood of Rector found the link on the Channel 8 website where a short recommendation could be typed in support of a person viewed as an example of Great Acts of Kindness in the Region 8 area.

RCM to host Vietnam Veterans Day program

Vietnam Veterans and their families will be honored at the Rector Community Museum Ford Room on Thursday, March 28, at 10 a.m. with a variety of program notables. Patrons will recall that the first historic display in the RCM was the Military Room showcasing mannequins dressed in donated uniforms from Rector area families, the soldiers representing all branches of the United States Military so that all service members would be recognized and honored.

Piggott to hold city wide yard sale

Piggott is gearing up for its annual city wide yard sale set for Saturday, March 30. The Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce reminds local residences sales held that day will not be required to purchase a permit from the city. Locations will also be featured on a list, which will be available from the Chamber of Commerce. Those wanting to be added to the list or for additional information may call the chamber office in the depot building at 870--598-3167 or email at chamberpg@yahoo.com. The last day for listings is today, Wednesday, March 27. The 49th annual Piggott FFA Auction will also be held on Saturday at the Clay County Fairgrounds.

‘Book of the Year’ presented to local libraries

Recently, Mark Coleman, Clay County Farm Bureau President presented a copy of the 2024 American Farm Bureau Foundation’s Agricultural Book of the Year, “My Grandpa, My Tree, and Me”, to the Piggott and Rector Public Libraries. Coleman also presented the Piggott and Rector Elementary School libraries with the book along with a copy of “My Family’s Soybean Farm”.
