HPMEC plans Eclipse Block Party

Dr. Les Johnson will be the guest speaker for a program planned at the Eclipse Block Party Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. There will be a $10 admission which will include eclipse glasses and an eclipse box of treats. The viewing site will be held on the grounds across from the museum. Those attending are encouraged to bring your lawn chair and set up will begin at 9 a.m.

A HISTORIC DAY

For many Americans, April 8 will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of the greatest displays in nature: a total solar eclipse. Partial solar eclipses - those in which the moon blocks a portion of the sun during the daytime hours - aren't particularly uncommon, Total solar eclipses, in contrast, are far less common, especially for people who don't have the means or interest to travel to obscure corners of the globe to witness them.

Early voting to begin Feb.20

Early voting for the 2024 Preferential Primary will begin Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Piggott and Corning Community Centers. Voting hours will be 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday Feb. 24 and Saturday March 2 voting hours will be 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Early voting ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 4.

Crittenden, Smart seek Position #5 for Piggott School Board

Kristen Crittenden is running for Position #5 on the Piggott School Board. This position is for the remaining term of Jim Threatt who resigned. She is married to Joseph Crittenden and has two children, 12-year-old Claire and nine-year-old Ryan. Kristen graduated from Piggott High School in 1999 and returned after graduating college in 2004 and currently works at Affinity Counseling in Piggott and Kennett and Families Inc. in Piggott and teaches junior high youth at the First General Baptist. “I have been blessed to work with many different people from all works of life,” she said.
