The Piggott School District Board of Education met in a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, in the District Administrative Office. Members present were Brad Dunlap, Chris Roberts, Jennifer Rahn, and Rob Chandler.
Fair board to meet Feb. 12 at kitchen The Clay County Fair Board meetings are set for the second Monday of each month in the fairgrounds kitchen.
1984 A drive to raise $25,000 to complete funding for the new library in Piggott received a major boost this week through contributions from local financial institutions. The new building, which will cost about $130,000 will be constructed just west of the post office on Main Street.
Entergy Arkansas customers who need help paying their winter utility bills can apply now for up to $475 in assistance through the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program’s application period runs Jan. 8 through March 22, officials said, or until funds are expended.

Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) crews and contractors are utilizing all available resources to repair potholes statewide that have formed in the aftermath of the recent winter storm. The state was hit by a severe winter storm that cost ARDOT approximately $810 million in labor and materials – including salt, salt brine, equipment, and working hours – used to fight the storm.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) will lead a trip to Cuba this spring. The trip will begin on Saturday, May 25, and continue through Saturday, June 1.
