The Next Generation Concert returns to the Ozark Folk Center during the Bean Festival and Championship Outhouse Races in Mountain View on Saturday, October 28. The concert is a fundraiser sponsored by the Committee of One Hundred to raise funds for the Music Roots Program for youth in Mountain View. Music Roots provides free music lessons and loaned instruments for homeschool and publicschool students beginning in fourth grade.
The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University will host a series of workshops and consulting sessions this fall that can benefit small businesses in their marketing endeavors.
1983 Tony Pace, a rural carrier for the Piggott Post Office was honored as Craft Employee of the Year for 1983 for the Jonesboro sectional center, and was honored at a banquet held at the Holiday Inn in Jonesboro.
Misty LaDawn Martin of Malden, Mo. has accepted the Clay County Electric Cooperative Corp.
As in two previous Gospel Variety Shows held at the Rector Community Museum (RCM) Ford Room, the organizers expect a packed house. The audience participated in sing-alongs, well-known gospel hymns and songs.

At the regularly scheduled Rector School Board meeting held Monday, Oct. 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administrative Building conducted limited business with a quorum present, President Jody Simmons and Secretary Kirk Ford not in attendance. Vice President Mike Trail conducted the meeting. Principals Nate Henderson and Mark Manchester were present.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Friday, Oct. 6, at approximately 1:54 a.m., a Clay County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a gold Chevrolet Suburban for defective equipment in Corning. The vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and would not pull over. The deputy then notified dispatch he was in pursuit. The vehicle left Corning on County Road 143 northbound. The vehicle traveled to Hwy. 328 and turned left, then turned south on County Road. 139. The vehicle stayed on 139 until it came to U.S. 67 where the driver turned west on U.S. 67. At this point Corning Police Department joined the pursuit. The vehicle speed at times exceeded 100 mph.
The Rector city wide yard sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 14. Rector Memorial Park facilities will be avail-able to residents free of charge during the day, but those using the park are reminded to bring their own tables for displays and will be required to clean their area once the sale is completed.
