Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. 1983 The Retail Committee of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce has set October 14 as the date for the Community Harvest Hoedown. Merchants will have special sales during the hours of 6 p.m.
The Rector city wide yard sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 14. Rector Memorial Park facilities will be available to residents free of charge during the day, but those using the park are reminded to bring their own tables for displays and will be required to clean their area once the sale is completed.
Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the second annual Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set for Saturday, Oct. 21. Teams are slated to compete for cash and trophies—not to mention bragging rights. The day will also include live music, a cornhole tournament, bouncy houses for the kids, vendors and prizes as the sweet smell of barbecue will fill the air. Everyone is invited to attend.
Piggott First Methodist Church is currently accepting donations of new/gently used winter coats through Saturday, Oct. 14. Items being accepted are warm coats, winter jackets and waterproof outerwear for children (boys and girls), all sizes. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Drop off locations include Jim Watson Real Estate, Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce office, Sugar Creek Country Club, Cajun Dave’s, Piggott Community Center and the Piggott Public Library. Items will be distributed Sunday, Oct. 15 at the church’s free community dinner.

Rector High School will observe football homecoming for 2023 with the traditional ceremonies and game set for Friday, Oct. 6.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) traditional registered nursing (TRN) students recently created study guides on white T-shirts to help them study for an upcoming test. Nursing Instructor Kelsie Cagle assigned the activity to the TRN students as a way to drive home the assessment techniques that students will need to get used to doing on their patients.
