Arrest made in Corning traffic stop

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at approximately 10:13 p.m., a Clay County deputy made a traffic stop on U.S. 67 North of Corning. It was noted that the vehicle had a Texas license plate and was driving erratically. The deputy made contact with the driver, as he talked to the driver he became suspicious of the driver. The deputy asked and was given permission to search the vehicle. During the search the deputy found illegal drugs. The driver of the vehicle, 50--year-old Randall Buck of Fort Worth, Tex., was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked for hazardous driving, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A-State Promise Plus program offers free tuition to most

Chancellor Todd Shields announced a new scholarship program providing free tuition to Arkansas State University for the majority of Arkansas families, the A-State Promise Plus. “Arkansas State is committed to easing the financial burden for these hard-working families as they seek to send their children to college,” Shields said at an oncampus event announcing university achievements and the new scholarship plan.

SCCC to host Hemingway event

Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person.
