The Miss Rector Pageant was moved to the Rector Community Center due to flooding rains that fell in Rector beginning at the close of the Little Miss Rector pageant. People began hud-dling in the Labor Day stands before they realized it was time to make a move toward vehicles and home.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) is pleased to announce Greenbrier’s Steven Kiker of Paragould has been named as the welding instructor for BRTC at The Armory in Piggott. “I’m excited to work with young people, to pour knowledge and experience into them,” Kiker said.
The Clay County Fair will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 13 through 16, at the fairgrounds in Piggott. Keeping with recent tradition, the annual pageants will be held in conjunction with the fair Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Baby Mr. and Miss Clay County pageants, and will continue throughout the day. The City of Piggott Parks and Recreation and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is set to host the 2023 annual family fishing rodeo at Heritage Park. This year’s rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 9. The event is open to those 15 and under. Organizers note only one pole may be used for each competitor, and there is a three fish limit. Arkansas fishing licenses are required for adults.

The Rector Labor Day Picnic Committee can not guarantee crisp, fall weather, but they have kept their eyes and ears poised for important weather forecasts given the recent excessive heat from the high-pressure dome poised over the Mid-South. The Weather Channel forecasts highs between 88 and 94 degrees on the critical days of Labor Day weekend for northeast Arkansas.

Piggott City Council met on Thursday, Aug. 24 with Councilman Kevin Jones absent. Minutes from the previous month’s minutes were approved. Councilman Tracy Cole had questions on the financials with Jamie Spence to investigate her concerns regarding parks and recreation receiving a percentage of the sales tax, appropriations and a utility reimbursement. Cole also questioned the distribution expense on unbudgeted maintenance with Brian Haley it was informing that it was for transformers.
According to a report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, at approximately 12:46 p.m., a Clay County Deputy made a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Blazer just outside of McDougal. There were two occupants in the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, 42-year-old Tammy D. Lutes of McDougal. The driver’s window would not roll down, so she opened the door of the vehicle and a baggy with a white substance was in plain view. The passenger of the vehicle was 43-year-old Danielle Householder of Paragould. The deputy got both individuals out of the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle. Both subjects were arrested for possession of controlled substance meth and possession of controlled substance marijuana. They were both transported to The Clay County Detention Center.
