BRAD meetings to be held

Black RiverArea Development Corporation Planning and Finance Committee will hold a meeting at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21 and the Black River Area Development Corporation Board of Directors will hold a meeting at 12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. Both meetings are being held virtually only.

Tickets for Rector Labor Day $1000 drawing available

With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 4, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area busi-nesses. Rector businesses include Above & Beyond, Big Time Pizza, Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, OHP-Our Happy Place, Piggott Pharmacy, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and The Vintage Junkie.

CC Jr. Fair Board plans craft show

The Clay County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the commercial building on the Clay County Fairgrounds. Vendor fee is set at $35 with community entry fee being a small donation to the Clay County Junior Fair Board Scholarship Fund. Small concessions will be available. Runnin’ Scared 5K set Sept. 16

The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and offroad running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.

HPMEC now hosting art exhibit

The Hemingway- Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels. This exhibit may be in the new exhibit room on the second floor in the museum and will be on display through August.

Nimmons Old Timers Dinner scheduled for Sept. 3

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.
