Delta District Ice Cream Social being hosted by Clay County EH

The Clay County Extension Homemakers will be hosting the Delta District Ice Cream Social at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Family Life Center located on S. Taylor Avenue in Piggott. Persons are asked to RSVP by Aug. 11 to cholmes@uada.edu or by calling 870-598-2246. Hemingway-Pfeiffer group tours are also being offered on the hour for a fee of $10 for those interested. Those interested will need to note they are interested in the tour when contacting Christin Holmes.

Busy weekend held in Rector

On the weekend of Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, Rector residents were working and shopping and helping kids get ready for back-toschool. The most activity in Rector on Saturday morning surrounded the pop-up shops and food trucks at Our Happy Place on Hwy. 49 at Main Street (Hwy. 90). Many cars pulled in for shopping, buying supper or specialty desserts and treats. A highlight for everyone was the appearance of a baby kangaroo and its mother, brought to Rector by AA Petting Farm.

Local citizens share concerns at Rector City Council meeting

At the Rector City Council meeting held Monday, Aug. 7, at the Community Center, about a dozen citizens appeared to share their concerns about two main topics – unsightly property that adversely affects community property values and the amendment of ordinance concerning the keeping of hens within the city limits. Several citizens spoke on both sides of the chickens-intown issue.

Piggott Health System hosts Florida Hospital System

Piggott Health System hosted key leadership personnel from Pensacola, Florida-based Baptist Health on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, to learn about the success that Piggott has experienced as a Critical Access Hospital. Baptist is one of the dominant providers in the Florida Pan-handle employing thousands of staff with annual revenues approaching three billion dollars. Jay Hospital, located north of Pensacola close to the Alabama line, is part of the Baptist Health System and is planning to transition from a Prospective Payment System (PPS) to a Critical Access Hospital (CAH).

CC Fair Parade entries being sought

The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
