QC handles light agenda

There was a single ordinance on the agenda to be considered by the Clay County Quorum Court during the July meeting on Monday, July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Eastern District Courthouse in Piggott. Ordinance 2023-17 was an appropriation ordinance to amend the Clay County Annual Budget Ordinance 2022-35 and to appropriate professional development recognition payments and for other purposes. The Professional Development Recognition Payments funded by the State of Arkansas are to qualifying personnel who actively work with property taxes. The lump sum payment of a professional development recognition payment shall not be incorporated into the county base pay of a constitutional officer or a county employee for future salary adjustments. It is subject o withholding or all applicable state and federal taxes, but not subject to retirement benefits. The professional development recognition payments shall not be construed to be part of a county officer’s compensation.

Annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic held

Cooler than normal temperatures greeted generations of current and former residents, along with visitors and friends for the 96th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration. The annual picnic, which serves to provide continued maintenance and upkeep for the local cemetery, kicked-off Monday evening with the first four pageants, along with an armband night on the midway, and the Mohawk Alumni Baseball Game at Independence Park.

New Hope Baptist Church VBS continues

New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard continues its Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870544-2364.

St. Francis School reunion set

The annual St. Francis School reunion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14. It will be held at the St. Francis Baptist Church in St. Francis. The reunion is for anyone who attended school at St. Francis, along with spouses and friends. Ham, drinks, and paper products will be provided. Former students are asked to bring a covered dish, snack or dessert. Everyone is encouraged to share this information with any family or friends who attended St. Francis School at any time. Organizers note they hope all former students plan to be there and join the fun.

OHP Vendor’s Market plans open house

“It’s good for our town,” commented Leigh Ann Jones, owner of Our Happy Place Vendor’s Market and OHP Nutrition.
