Canning workshop set

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a summer workshop on canning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15. Park staff will teach participants how to preserve food through canning. Staff will discuss the history of canning and give tips for making canning each. Participants will leave with a sample canned good made at the workshop. Golf tournament set

The sixth annual Mohawk Football Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, July 27, at the Sugar Creek Country Club and is being hosted by the Piggott Mohawk Football Boosters. Tee off is set for 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event is a 18 hole four-person scramble and is limited to 18 teams. Lunch will be provided.

Strawberry jam canning workshops being offered

The Clay County Extension Office will be hosting two strawberry jam canning workshops for local participants. The first workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 at the Clay County Fairground kitchen located at 772 N. Garfield Ave., in Piggott. The second workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 at Rector First Baptist Church, 200 S. Stewart St., Rector. Both workshops are limited to six participants and registration is $15. Materials will be provided but participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. Local students among graduates at ASU

Arkansas State University has announced the list of students who completed degree requirements to graduate at Spring Commencement, held May 6 in First National Bank Arena. Chancellor Todd Shields presented diplomas at the associate, bachelor, master, specialist and doctoral levels, along with various program certificates, as awarded through the various colleges: Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College.
