Local students among graduates at ASU

Arkansas State University has announced the list of students who completed degree requirements to graduate at Spring Commencement, held May 6 in First National Bank Arena. Chancellor Todd Shields presented diplomas at the associate, bachelor, master, specialist and doctoral levels, along with various program certificates, as awarded through the various colleges: Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College.

Farewell reception held at HPMEC

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Education Center and Museum Director Shannon Williams hosted a farewell reception honoring Matthew Pitt who lived for the month of June in the apartment above The Market on the square in Piggott as Writer-in-Residence, a writing and mentoring program in its seventh year, underwritten by Piggott State Bank. Pitt’s experience in Piggott involved time for his own writing and mentoring eleven writers at the Education Center for a week.

1983 Many state and national officials made an appearance in the Piggott 4th of July parade. Lieutenant Governor, Winston Bryant, State Treasurer Jimmie Lou Fisher, State Land Commissioner Mill McCuen, Senator David Pryor and Congressman Bill Alexander were a few featured on the front page.
