The traditional slate of beauty pageants are scheduled in conjunction with this year’s St. Francis Picnic, set for Saturday, July 15, at the picnic grounds in that community.

Local students among graduates at ASU
Arkansas State University has announced the list of students who completed degree requirements to graduate at Spring Commencement, held May 6 in First National Bank Arena. Chancellor Todd Shields presented diplomas at the associate, bachelor, master, specialist and doctoral levels, along with various program certificates, as awarded through the various colleges: Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College.
Farewell reception held at HPMEC
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Education Center and Museum Director Shannon Williams hosted a farewell reception honoring Matthew Pitt who lived for the month of June in the apartment above The Market on the square in Piggott as Writer-in-Residence, a writing and mentoring program in its seventh year, underwritten by Piggott State Bank. Pitt’s experience in Piggott involved time for his own writing and mentoring eleven writers at the Education Center for a week.
Indoor benefit yard and bake sale planned for Mitchell Cemetery
Mitchell Cemetery will be holding a benefit indoor yard sale at the Greenway Picnic dining hall. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 6 & 7. Baked goods and lots of miscellaneous will be available and a spokesperson noted that everything must go!

The Commissioner of State Lands Office will begin auctions this year with a major change. Effective July 1, owners of delinquent parcels will not be able to redeem parcels sold at a taxdelinquent auction.
Clay County 4-H participate in Delta District 4-H O’Rama
Clay County 4-H was represented well by five 4-H members at the Delta District 4-H O’Rama on June 15 at East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City. It was an enjoyable day for 4-H competitive events.
