The Rector Public Library is geared-up for a busy June and July as the Summer Reading Program returns. This year’s theme is “All Together Now – Kindness – Friendship Unity.” The programs are at 9 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June and will continue on July 12 and 19. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more.
The Clay County Quorum Court met at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at the courthouse in Corning, with Justice Jody Henderson being absent. Motion was made by Justice Dennis Haines to suspend the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting being seconded by Justice Patrick Patterson, the motion passed unanimously.
Readers of all ages are invited to participate in the Summer Reading Program at the Piggott Public Library as they present “All Together Now and Bee-ing Kind.” The programs are at 11 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more. This year the library has announced one of their big prizes is a giant Squishmallow Sunny the Bee pool float. Children will be able to enter their name for a chance to win during each program attended. The drawing for the winner will be held on June 28 at the Kinders concert.
A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
The 96th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration kicks-off Monday afternoon, July 3, with the first of four pageants and culminates with a full day of events and activities on Tuesday, July 4, as Independence Day is marked for 2023.
Central Methodist University celebrated its spring 2023 commencement on May 13 in Puckett Fieldhouse on the Fayette campus. Former board of trustees chairman Robert Courtney gave the commencement address as a packed house of family, friends, faculty, staff, and other guests celebrated the graduates.
During the immersive civics lesson known for 82 years as Arkansas Boys State, Rector’s Drew Henderson put into practice his leadership skills and ability to build relationships. Henderson was elected by his peers during district elections on Tuesday, May 30, as part of the annual session of Boys State where students build a mock government structure, including eight different congressional districts each with three senators and ten representatives.
The children of Homer and Dora Causey will be hosting a family reunion beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the Pollard Picnic ground.
The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University will offer several opportunities for small businesses to learn about starting and growing a business in July.
