Entergy Arkansas is launching “Kids to College,” a my529 child savings account program to help families plan and save for their children’s higher education, with a pledge to match up to $100,000 for qualified customers.
1983 The Quorum Court gave unanimous approval Monday night to an emergency ordinance calling for a special election July 26 asking for a 1¢ county sales tax. The court maintains the tax is needed for county roads and maintenance, equipment and repair.
A new favorite song written, recorded, and performed by the band TRIPPP, threw Thursday night’s crowd into full participation mode. The band TRIPPP, the country, Delta blues, and entertainment sensation from Jonesboro, roused the capacity crowd with the toe-tapping hit Dixieland Delight.
Black River Technical College is pleased to announce the summer Practical Nursing pinning and graduation ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, in the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas Campus.
Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federally-funded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.
The Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, June 13 with all board members in attendance. The minutes from the previous regular and special meetings held on May 9 and May 25 respectively were approved as well as the financials.
The Rector Public Library is geared-up for a busy June and July as the Summer Reading Program returns. This year’s theme is “All Together Now – Kindness – Friendship Unity.” The programs are at 9 a.m. Wednesdays during the month of June and will continue on July 12 and 19. The 2023 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages, with prizes, drawings, stories, reading logs, and more.
The Clay County Quorum Court met at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at the courthouse in Corning, with Justice Jody Henderson being absent. Motion was made by Justice Dennis Haines to suspend the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting being seconded by Justice Patrick Patterson, the motion passed unanimously.
A photographic exhibit entitled ‘The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway: Across the River into the Trees’ is being hosted by Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center through June 30. The exhibit is comprised of a series of beautiful black and white panels and is located in the new exhibit room on the second floor of the museum.
