Piggott Girl Scout Troop 3011 is currently selling chances for a knife raffle. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20 with each ticket purchase entitling you to three chances of winning. First prize is a custom Seth Miller knife, handmade in Boydsville, Ark., and valued at $250. Second prize is an Aitor El Montero, made in Spain and is used by Spanish Special Forces valued at $140. Third prize is a Condor Australian Army Machete. It is made in small batches in El Salvador with a value of $100. All proceeds will benefit the troop. Drawing will be held on June 16. Mitchell Cemetery will be hosting a benefit indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, June. 9. The sale will be held in the Greenway Picnic Dining Hall. Huge new selection of items are available.

An antique chess set that was gifted to Karl and Matilda Pfeiffer by Pfeiffer’s Uncle, Gustavus “Gus” Pfeiffer, is on display at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum. Gus Pfeiffer was a devoted chess collector and has approximately 100 sets which can be seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on May 24, 2023, the department executed a search warrant at 822 Ferguson Road in Corning. The Sheriff’s Department had received information of drug activity at this residence. Arrested were 62-year-old Ricky Holcomb and 51-yearold Goldie Gray. Holcomb was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gray was arrested on possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia X2. The two were transported to the Clay County Detention Center where they each are being held on a $50,000 bond.

The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard invites all kids to their Twist and Turns VBS kickoff at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 7. Those attending will enjoy a night of worship, free food, games, and a fun way to kickoff the summer with vacation bible school. Vacation bible school begins today, Wednesday, June 7, and will continue each Wednesday night through July 19. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Twist and Turns” as those attending will spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win. Twist and Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Those wanting more information may call 870-544-2364.

Entergy Arkansas has launched a new recycling program for residential customers to make replacing their outdated refrigerator or freezer easier. The Entergy Solutions’ Point of Purchase Solutions (POPS) Program allows customers to schedule a free pick-up of a working refrigerator or freezer and receive a $25 incentive check for recycling their old appliance.

A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
