Piggott City Council holds special meeting regarding Clay County Connect

Piggott City Council held a special meeting at noon on Thursday, June 1 regarding the city using Clay County Connect. Board members Kevin Jones, Jamey Parks and Tracey Cole were present with Jeff Benbrook being absent. Many members of the public and county officials were also present. Councilman Cole had several questions regarding the options, a motion was made by Cole to table the vote until there is time to pursue the options, then choose an option and vote.

Summer canning workshop to be held

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a summer workshop on canning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1 and Saturday, July 15. Park staff will teach participants how to preserve food through canning. Staff will discuss the history of canning and give tips for making canning each. Participants will leave with a sample canned good made at the workshop. Both workshops will cover the same topics. Space is limited and reservations are required. Memorial Day observed in Clay County

Piggott’s Memorial Garden Cemetery hosted services for Memorial Day Sunday afternoon, as the traditional ceremony was held along with the usual business meeting. On Friday, Mohawk athletes and coaches from all sports along with Girl Scout Troop 3016 gathered along the rolling hills of the cemetery and placed 876 American flags on the graves of the veterans.
