Powhatan Historic State Park will host a summer workshop on pearl stringing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3. Park staff will teach participants how to make a necklace, bracelet or earrings from pearls. Freshwater pearls from the bottom of the Black River have been a large part of Powhatan’s local history. Park interpreters will talk about the history of the freshwater pearling industry on the Black River. The pearls to be used in the workshop crafts were not harvested from the Black River. Space is limited and reservations are required. Registration fee varies - $25 for a necklace, $15 for a bracelet and $10 for earrings. The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will be hosting the photographic exhibit entitled The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway: Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of a series of beautiful black and white panels. The first series will be on exhibit from June 1 through June 30, 2023. This will be in the new exhibit room on the second floor in the museum.

Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center will present multi-awardwinning duo Dailey and Vincent at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 30.

The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. Park staff will teach participants how to preserve food through canning. Staff will discuss the history of canning and give tips for making canning each. Participants will leave with a sample canned good made at the workshop. Both workshops will cover the same topics. Space is limited and reservations are required. Black RiverArea Development Corporation will be conducting a public hearing for the 2023-2024 Community Services Block Grant Program from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 9. The hearing will address the use of CSBG funding in the community and will be held in the basement meeting room at the BRAD Central Office, 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas.
