Rector gives thanks for freedom

The VFW Post #10480 led by Post Commander Steve Ward presented the annual Memorial Day program before a modest crowd gathered under the stalwart Champion oak tree at Woodland Heights Cemetery. Commander Ward introduced Post member George Bearden who offered the invocation and later gave the benediction for the event which began at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The Piggott High School class of 2023 held their commencement Sunday afternoon

The Piggott High School class of 2023 held their commencement Sunday afternoon, May 21, with a packed house of family, friends and fellow students. The members of the class were pre-sented with diplomas as well as many scholarships and awards. The class members entered the PHS gym to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” played by the Piggott High Concert Band.

Business Expo planned at Rector

The City of Rector along with Rector Chamber of Commerce announce their joint sponsorship of a Business Expo which is designed to promote the Rector First initiative, the concept that encourages residents to shop local first. The Expo will take place on June 22 at the Rector Community Center.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all federal, state, county and local offices will be closed on Monday, May 29. The closures include both Clay County courthouses, the three county libraries, all local city halls along with state and federal government offices.

Summer gift basket fundraiser being held by Piggott Girl Scouts

Piggott Girl Scout Troop 3011 is currently selling chances on a summer gift basket. The basket includes a $20 tanning gift certificate to Brick House Fitness, tanning lotion, beach towel, beach bag and beach hat. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. IT HAPPENED HERE YEARS AGO….

1993 Commencement was held for the PHS class of 1993, with comments from honor grads and Donnie Morrison. The Piggott grad was president of a bank at Morrilton at the time. The second annual Heritage Park fishing rodeo is set for the coming weekend, co-sponsored by Piggott Parks and Recreation and the local Kiwanis Club.
