1993 Commencement was held for the PHS class of 1993, with comments from honor grads and Donnie Morrison. The Piggott grad was president of a bank at Morrilton at the time. The second annual Heritage Park fishing rodeo is set for the coming weekend, co-sponsored by Piggott Parks and Recreation and the local Kiwanis Club.
The Little Rock VA Regional Office’s next Virtual Claims Clinic for Arkansas Veterans is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 25. During the upcoming Virtual Claims Clinic, veterans may speak to staff of the Little Rock VA Regional Office who are ready to assist them with specific questions regarding VA benefits claims.
The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould. The Piggott 4-H Livestock team is currently hosting a You’ve Been “Budded” fundraiser through May 30. You can help support the club by “budding” a friend, family, business, or neighbor for $25. A display of clovers will be placed in the recipient’s yard. The lucky recipient can choose the next house by donating to continue the cause. You may also purchase clover protection for $10. The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. Anyone interested in making a donation toward the upkeep of the cemetery may do so at any Regions Bank location to the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery Fund. You may also contact Perry Mills at 870783-0109.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Put yourself in place where history happened as you become judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as we bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in. Space is limited and reservations are required. There is a registration fee of $25. A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
