Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, April 17 at the courthouse in Corning with all justices present. After roll call, Justice Dennis Haines made a motion to suspend reading of the minutes from the previous session, this was seconded by Justice Patrick Patterson and unanimously approved.
The public testing, and logic and accuracy test, for the upcoming May 9 Election in Clay County will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The testing will be conducted at the Corning election warehouse, located at 435 Southwest Second Street in Corning. The testing is open to the public. Rector Downtown Central will host a Spring Marketplace from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Rector Downtown Park.Approximately 20 local ven- will offer their wares for a spring shopping day. A special treat will be the opportunity to meet Buck, the sweet little kangaroo of A&J Farms.
Ford Room favorite performer and Arkansas CMA Country Artist of the Year 2018 Cory Jackson returns on April 20 for a spectacular event inside the Rector Community Museum located on Main Street in Rector. Appearing throughout the state, Cory’s schedule has kept him moving, this concert having been on the books for a year. Because of his immense popularity, Cory’s appearance will be highlighted with a new feature, a “Meet and Greet” opportunity for reserve seat ticket holders.
The Clay County 4H Youth Leadership Team held a workshop Wednesday, April 5 at Piggott High School. The workshop focused on building resumes and interviewing skills.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports on Monday, April 10, 2023, they received a 911 call from a cleaning service about a vacant residence being broken into on Highway 90 close to Holly Island. The suspects that broke into the residence reportedly hit the front of the vehicle belonging to the people that were cleaning the house as they were leaving the property trying to get back to the highway. Before the Sheriff’s Department arrived, the suspects turned around and tried to tell the people cleaning that they had permission to get the property they were leaving
A combined effort of Piggott Health Systems, First General Baptist Church and Piggott State Bank will host a free health and resource event on Thursday, April 27. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First General Baptist Church located at 679 South Taylor in Piggott.
Students in kindergarten at Piggott Elementary School are learning about embryology with Clay County Extension Agent, Allison Howell. On Tuesday,April 10, Howell provided eggs to each classroom and explained what embryology is and how to hatch chicks. Howell will re-turn this week to demonstrate how to candle the eggs and explain what is going on inside them.
1983 Mayor George Cook accepted a check for $20,000 from Sheldon Settlemoir, Piggott Health Care Facilities Board Chairman. The hospital was able to repay a $20,000 advance made to Piggott Community Hospital for beginning operations in 1979.
