Missing Colorado man found deceased Feb. 21

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving a call at 7:58 a.m. of a deceased person by the river levee close to the bridge off Highway 90. Upon arrival, workers reported they found a vehicle with a body lying beside the car. The deceased person was Randolph Rodewald, 83-year-old male from Denver, Colo. Rodewald was reported missing on Tuesday morn-ing at the Denver Police Department. In suspicion, the subject got disoriented and went north down the levee about one mile and pulled off in a field and got stuck, and was unable to get himself free. He then got out of the vehicle and fell into a mud puddle beside the car and was unable to get up. Clay County Coroner was on the scene and no foul play was suspected. The body was sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab in Little Rock.

2A State Tournament underway at Rector

The 2A State Tournament will be played at Rector High School this week, a first for Rector and this northeast section of Arkansas. By the time the CCTD is published on Wednesday, Tuesday’s action, Feb. 28, will be in the books. The boys’ side of the bracket will have seen early action between Lavaca and Sloan-Hendrix with the early game at 2:30 p.m.. Bigelow and Hector (yes, with an H) Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and EPC (East Poinsett County) will have played those pesky Redbugs from Fordyce in the big game at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Photos of trespassers leads to two arrests

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at 3:45 p.m. a deputy received a call that an individual had photographs of trespassers on their property. The caller’s residence is approximately three miles west of St. Francis and four miles north of Piggott. A deputy was en route to the residence and met the vehicle that was photographed at the location. The deputy turned around and stopped the vehicle traveling southbound on 4th Street in Piggott. The deputy made contact with the driver, Kathy Newman, a 57-year old female of Paragould and the passenger, John K. Holmes, a 65-year-old male of Paragould.

Continuance of one percent sales and use tax topic at Piggott City Council meeting

The Piggott City Council met in regular session on Thursday, Feb. 23 at city hall with all members present. The council approved the minutes from the last meeting and approved the appointment of members to the planning and zoning committee, municipal airport board and parks and recreation advisory board. The property lien placement meeting will be held at the March meeting.

Piggott School Dist. to host meetings

he Piggott School District will be hosting two community meetings regarding the 2023- 2024 school year calendar. The meetings are set for Thursday, March 2, at 6: 30 p. m. in the elementary library and Monday, March 6, at the high school library also at 6: 30 p. m. The school has a school calendar survey which can be found at their website www. piggottschools. net or a link can be found on Piggott Elementary School’s Facebook page.
