The Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, May 19 in the Piggott Courthouse with justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, George Lowe, David Hatcher, Brad Green, Neal Smith and Jody Henderson in attendance. Justices David Cagle and Randy Kingston were absent.
Rector High School has been named the top-performing school in Arkansas in the 2025 Intuit Hour of Finance Challenge – a national initiative that engages middle and high school students in building essential financial literacy skills through interactive activities with real-world scenarios – in celebration of April’s Financial Literacy Month.
Rector School District recently received a generous donation for their weekend backpack program from Cargill Cotton Company as part of their Cargill Cares initiative.The Cargill Cotton Company is the exclusive buyer of cotton from producers such as Graves Gin at Hargrave Corner. “Donations such as this keep our backpack program alive and make it possible to send weekly food bags home with students who can benefit from the additional support.We are so thankful to be partnering with Cargill again to help students and families in our community,” commented RES Principal Mark Manchester. Piggott Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of their annual Summer Reading Program themed “Color Our World”. This summer readers of all ages are invited to embark on a thrilling journey filled with books, activities, and events designed to inspire a love of reading.
1985 Combined baccalaureate and commencement excercises for the Class of 1985 at Piggott High School will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the high school gymnasium. There are 67 members of this year’s graduating class.
Special Olympics Arkansas Area 1 began its torch run on Monday, May 19, with the torch being carried by local law enforcement. Officers from all over the state will carry the Flame of Hope in their cities from which the iconic flame will make its way to Little Rock.
