A long-standing tradition of media competition among high school students continues this year with the Great A-State Media Fest. For more than eight decades, Arkansas State University hosted an inperson media competition known as “Communication Day,” but the pandemic changed things.

The Black River Technical College Foundation(BRTC) has received a $12,500 education grant from the Gene HAAS Foundation that will go to the Machine Tool Technology program. The Gene HAAS grant money will go toward student tuition, NIMS testing, and student memberships in SkillsUSA, said Machine Tool Technology Instructor Rick Barker.

Rector teacher, Bridgette Branson, has incorporated a family treasure into an Arkansas history unit for her students. She has used the book Kyota: The Legend of Spirit Lake, a historical fiction story written by Branson’s grandfather Pocahontas resident Aubrey Glen Mobley.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, Piggott kindergarteners celebrated their 100th day of school by dressing up and having a parade through the halls of the elementary school. The students and teachers had a blast as they paraded down the hall dressed up like they were 100 years old. The annual Clay and Greene County Corn and Cotton Production meeting was held Friday, January 27th, 2023, at the Rector Community Center. A nice crowd of over 60 produces, crop consultants, and industry representatives were in attendance.
Senator Blake Johnson (RCorning), who represents District 21, began his role as Senate Majority Leader as the 2023 Arkansas General Assembly began the second week of January. In an interview with the Clay County Times-Democrat, Johnson said the role of the Majority Leader is to lead the senate caucus of the majority party, to help develop policy and to help keep the caucus unified in order to help members pass and develop good policy.
