The Black River Technical College Foundation(BRTC) has received a $12,500 education grant from the Gene HAAS Foundation that will go to the Machine Tool Technology program. The Gene HAAS grant money will go toward student tuition, NIMS testing, and student memberships in SkillsUSA, said Machine Tool Technology Instructor Rick Barker.
Arkansas State University’s annual Agribusiness Conference, now in its 29th year, continues to provide timely information and agricultural policy education to farmers, agribusiness professionals, students and educators across the Mid-South.
Rector teacher, Bridgette Branson, has incorporated a family treasure into an Arkansas history unit for her students. She has used the book Kyota: The Legend of Spirit Lake, a historical fiction story written by Branson’s grandfather Pocahontas resident Aubrey Glen Mobley.

Beauty in language and scenes that allow the senses to slip between fantasy and reality contribute to reading for pleasure. In the case of Where the Crawdad’s Sing, I must say that reading the book was far and away more enjoyable than seeing the movie, though I liked the movie.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum has announced April 28 and April 29, 2023, as the dates for the Spring Reading Retreat. Registration is $160 due by April 1, with a $25 late registration fee for late entries. The fee may be refunded until April 15. Due to higher costs to produce and deliver the newspaper, on February 1, individual copies of the Clay County Times-Democrat will increase to $1 a copy.
