Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session for the first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the courthouse in Piggott. This was the first meeting for newly elected members, Randy Kingston, George Lowe, Neal Smith, other justices present were Patrick Patterson, Dennis Haines, David Hatcher and Jody Henderson. Absent was David Cagle and newly elected Brad Green.
The Clay County Extension Service is offering its annual pesticide applicator training at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Extension office located at 148 East Main in Piggott. The training is required for agriculture producers to qualify for license to purchase restricted pesticides. The class costs $20 and those interested must be present for the entire training session to be certified for a license from the Arkansas State Plant Board. 1983 The junior Mohawks won their second straight county championship Monday night with a 42-35 win over Knobel. Ricky Wheat led the offense, finishing with 20 points.
The Rector LEGO team competed in the state tournament at the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville on January 2022. This was the eighth straight year the team has qualified for the state tournament.

A workshop on “Introduction to Building a Successful Blog” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in the educational center of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. The cost is $35 per person and space is limited. If wanting to reserve a laptop for the workshop please advise when signing up.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a cross-stitch workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4. The cost of the workshop is $20 and reservations are required. Those taking part will learn that cross-stitching is not only the oldest form of embroidery, but also one of the easiest to learn. Participants will learn basic stitch techniques, pattern reading, and will stitch one of several historic or modern patterns of their choosing. The registration fee covers the cost of materials but participants are asked to bring a sack lunch.
