Black River Technical College (BRTC) President Martin Eggensperger has been elected to the Governor’s Quality Award Board by the Arkansas Institute for Performance Excellence, the nonprofit that administers the Governor’s Quality Award and is an affiliated program of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce/AIA.
The Arkansas Soybean Association has set Wednesday, Jan. 25 as the date of their annual business session and seminar. The informative seminar and business session will be held at the Brinkley Convention Center, 1501 Weatherby Drive, in Brinkley, Ark. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 a.m. and will conclude with lunch. Lunch will be provided by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board and meeting sponsors.
1983 Betty Reams, Executive Director of Piggott Community Hospital, officially announces that on January 15, 1983, the Piggott Community Hospital began operation of the ambulance service formerly operated by the City of Piggott. Kim Parton is Piggott High School’s 1983 Basketball Homecoming Queen.
Another 2023 reading challenge proposes the division of the United States into specific geographic regions and reading a book set in each section. By reading Nevada Barr’s series of books featuring the National Park System as the various settings, the reading challenge for me has already been accomplished.
January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) BreastCare program coordinates efforts with a statewide network of providers offering no-cost cervical and breast cancer screenings and follow-up services.
Top spellers in the Piggott School District were selected Wednesday, Dec. 7, in a spelling bee at the Piggott Elementary School library that included students from fourth through eighth grades.
A Best Care workshop is planned for childcare providers in Clay, Greene, Lawrence, and Randolph Counties from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, 106 E. Everett St. Class topics include body positivity, good nutrition and basic math, importance of immunizations, literacy in early childhood, money as you grow, guidance, kindergarten readiness, engaging children in physical activity, observation in early childhood and professionalism. The Clay County Extension Service is offering its annual pesticide applicator training at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Extension office located at 148 East Main in Piggott. The training is required for agriculture producers to qualify for license to purchase restricted pesticides. The class costs $20 and those interested must be present for the entire training session to be certified for a license from the Arkansas State Plant Board.
