Looking back at 2022: Part two

July A large crowd turned out for the 95th annual edition of the Piggott Fourth of July Celebration and June Williams was announced Grand Marshal for the parade. The activities were highlighted by the crowning of Miss Piggott 2022, Handley McAtee of Kennett, along with Elise Gosse and Maddie Reeves as her court and Kalaya Cole as the People’s Choice winner.

1983 Kenneth Parker has been appointed new Police Chief for Piggott and began his duties January 1. County Judge Harry Niewald began his term of office by calling a Quorum Court meeting Monday night in compliance with the rule that requires a meeting on the first Monday night of the new term.

Non-fiction author recommendation

Erik Larson, my favorite non-fiction author, has taken me for many adventures and through his brilliant research has taught me facts about history I could never have learned from survey US history courses. I first encountered his books at the recommendation of a friend – isn’t that how readers operate? I was hooked upon reading Isaac’s Storm – the story of the Galveston, Texas, hurricane in 1900 prior to the formidable National Weather Service.
