Rector Chamber of Commerce lighting contest held

The Rector Chamber of Commerce continued in the tradition of recognizing the most outstanding, creative, and festive outdoor scenes as they once again sponsored their annual Christmas lighting contest for home in the Rector city limits. Because of the tradition of outdoor decorations for the Christmas season in Rector, many residents added more twinkling lights and blow-up characters to their dazzling Christmas displays.

DHS Christmas effort a success

Organizers of the annual Clay County Department of Human Services Christmas Project report another successful effort. According to DHS county administrator Holly Crabtree, “In the Piggott and Rector area we helped 24 families with 67 children.” Again, as usual, the area was very generous.

Elementary school enterance safety topic at Piggott School Board meeting

Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 13 with all members present. The meeting started with Superintendent Freddie Bowen presenting a plaque to retiring district treasurer Sheila Mayberry. Mayberry is retiring after 32 and one half years. After the presentation the board ap-proved the minutes of the last meeting and the financials.

SHERIFF MILLER HONORED

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller was honored Saturday, Dec. 17 at The Oaks in Corning with a retirement celebration. Miller has spent the last 35 years serving the citizens of Clay County and the State of Arkansas. Deputy Blaine McClung is shown presenting Miller with a plaque for his years of service.
