The Arkansas Grown program, administered through the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, will partner with several Arkansas agricultural associations and organizations to host the first Arkansas Grown Conference and Expo on January 25-28, 2023, in Little Rock.
The Rector Chamber of Commerce continued in the tradition of recognizing the most outstanding, creative, and festive outdoor scenes as they once again sponsored their annual Christmas lighting contest for home in the Rector city limits. Because of the tradition of outdoor decorations for the Christmas season in Rector, many residents added more twinkling lights and blow-up characters to their dazzling Christmas displays.
Organizers of the annual Clay County Department of Human Services Christmas Project report another successful effort. According to DHS county administrator Holly Crabtree, “In the Piggott and Rector area we helped 24 families with 67 children.” Again, as usual, the area was very generous.
Piggott High School will seem very different when it resumes from Christmas break, as long-time district treasurer Sheila Mayberry retired on Dec. 16 after serving the school district for thirty-two and one half years.
Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 13 with all members present. The meeting started with Superintendent Freddie Bowen presenting a plaque to retiring district treasurer Sheila Mayberry. Mayberry is retiring after 32 and one half years. After the presentation the board ap-proved the minutes of the last meeting and the financials.
Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge hosted the 20th annual Officer of the Year awards and recognition luncheon Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Benton Event Center, where she honored Arkansas State Police Corporal Michael Tompkins as the Clay County Officer of the Year.
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session Monday, Dec. 19 at the Corning Courthouse with all justice’s present. After the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, the outgoing county clerk Brandi Boyd swore in the justices of the peace.
Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller was honored Saturday, Dec. 17 at The Oaks in Corning with a retirement celebration. Miller has spent the last 35 years serving the citizens of Clay County and the State of Arkansas. Deputy Blaine McClung is shown presenting Miller with a plaque for his years of service.
Black River Technical College Fall 2022 graduate students walked the stage Thursday night, Dec. 15, moving on to the next chapter of their lives filled with opportunity, as keynote speaker Darenda Kersey pointed out during her speech.
