Downtown Piggott will be alive with the sights and sounds of the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 3, as the annual Christmas Fest and parade are held. Activities are slated from noon to 4:30 p.m. on the square, followed by the annual Christmas Parade at 5 p.m.
Corning, Ark. - On Monday, Nov. 21, agents with the Second Judicial Drug Task Force were alerted to a large quantity of narcotics within a storage facility near the 400 block of Second Street in Corning, which is in close proximity to a child day care within the city. A police canine was summoned to the storage facility and subsequently indicated the presence of narcotics emitting from one of the units.
The popular traditional Holiday Tour of Homes will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Rector Chamber of Commerce annual Rector Christmas Parade is set for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. Line-up will take place at 3rd and Main Streets. Floats, side-by-sides, walking groups, riding groups are welcome. If you have Christmas spirit, you can share it in the Rector Christmas Parade.
Dyess Colony Circle members are invited to attend a special screening of the documentary “Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon.” The event will take place on Thursday, Dec. 1, ahead of the limited release of the film which will be Dec. 5-7. The premiere will be shown at the Ron Robinson Theater in Little Rock.
Rector Downtown Central will host Santa’s favorite elf, Buddy the Elf, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, in Rector Downtown Park. Friends of Buddy the Elf will take him for a ride in the Christmas Parade so he can see Santa. Buddy the Elf believes in spreading Christmas Cheer by singing loudly for all to hear and Ken Price, pastor of Rector General Baptist Church, will lead the crowd bellowing forth with their best voices at the bandstand around 3:30 p.m.
The Delta Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Holiday Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in Riceland Hall of the Fowler Center on the A-State Campus in Jonesboro. DSO and Conductor, Dr. Neale Bartee, plan a wonderful selection of holiday classics, including Bugler’s Holiday with trumpeters Nairam Simoes, Tyler Helms, and Blake White and Fantasia on Greensleeves, featuring flutist Heather Coleman and harpist Alaina Graiser. Foundation of the Arts Ballerinas will perform selected dances from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and the Delta Symphony Orchestra’s will perform Sleigh Ride with guest Conductor, George Cavenaugh. The concert will close with the traditional DSO sing-a-long and an appearance by Santa Claus.
Monday, Nov. 21, the Clay County Quorum Court held its regular monthly meeting at the courthouse in Piggott, with Justice David Cagle being absent and all other justices present. Justice Dennis Haines made a motion to dispense of the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, which was seconded by Justice Patrick Patterson, and approved by the court.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 1888 Powhatan Courthouse. This family-oriented day will include opportunities to make crafts, tour the property, participate in activities, and enjoy refreshments.
