Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set for Oct. 15

Early fall will bring with it a new event to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Piggott, as the first ever Piggott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off is set for Saturday, Oct. 15. Presented by the PiggottArea Chamber of Commerce, over two dozen teams are slated to compete for cash and trophies— not to mention bragging rights. The day will also include live music, a cornhole tournament, bouncy houses for the kids, vendors and prizes as the sweet smell of barbecue will fill the air. Everyone is invited to attend.

BRTC receives Governor’s Quality Award

Highest level of award program for performance excellence After a spending a year evaluating its processes, systems, and policies then undergoing a three-day, seven-person site evaluation visit, Black River Technical College has been awarded the highest level, the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence, of the Governor’s Quality Award Program offered by the Arkansas Institute for Performance Excellence in partnership with the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce. This program is based upon the Baldridge Performance Excellence Program known for supporting organizational performance excellence across the globe.

Art on the Ridge set Saturday in Piggott

Art on the Ridge is hosting the first Art on the Ridge Second Saturday event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 8 that will feature an exhibition at the Blue Awning Gallery with art from Jared Vaughn, Jerri Tate, Milo Stephens and Sarah Guite. In addition, Clay County students’ artwork will be displayed outside the gallery. An original artwork by Jared Vaughn will be this month’s prize for the free raffle, sponsored by Piggott State Bank, also sponsoring the live music by Elliot Wade.
