Mass flu vaccine clinic set in Piggott
The Clay County Health Unit of the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will offer flu vaccinations at the Clay County Health Unit, 1009 S. Garfield, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Officials noted, people should bring their insurance cards with them to the flu vaccine clinic. If they do not have insurance, or the insurance does not cover flu shots, the vaccine will be available at no charge.

Former Clay County Assessor Jerry Williams dead at 79
Jerry Wayne Williams, 79, of Piggott, died Thursday, Sept. 15, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home. A native of Piggott, Williams served as a Deputy Sheriff for Clay County and in 1988 was elected as Clay County Assessor. He served the community in that position until Dec. 2002.
Rector School Board approves 2023 budget
Rector School Board met in regular session at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept 12, at the RSD Administration Building. All members, Jamie Vavak, Chase Sain, Kirk Ford, Mike Trail, and president Jody Simmons, were in attendance.
RDC to sponsor Rector Downtown Marketplace
Rector is the place to be on Saturday morning, Oct. 8. Everything exciting, all things fun and shopperfriendly will happen on Rector’s Main Street and around town in Rector beginning at 8 a.m. on that Saturday morning. Rector Downtown Central is promoting the concept of a Downtown Marketplace combining multiple events into a day of excitement and activity starting at the Downtown Park on Main Street.
Clay County Quorum Court handles light agenda
Clay County Quorum Court met at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at the Piggott Courthouse with Justice Dennis Haines absent. Justice Jody Henderson moved to suspend the reading of the previous month’s meeting. A second was made and approved.

Have you ever asked yourself “Why didn’t anyone teach me this in school?” The Grown Up U: Facts for Success podcast program brought to you by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service focuses on the life skills needed for young adults to successfully navigate the decisions and pitfalls of “adulting” in the real world. Our team of FCS (Family and Consumer Sciences) agents with from across the state has worked together to produce relevant and research-based podcasts to help young people access the facts they need to succeed.

First Collection Services continues to grow
Last fall, Piggott was introduced to a new company, First Collection Services, a work from home job that has 42 local people (from Arkansas and Missouri) employed as of now. First party customer service is what the people in this area are hired for.
Rector 4-H Tech Changemakers announce series of workshops
Rector 4-H Tech Changemakers are excited to announce a series of workshops teaching digital skills to help people access important resources and learn the most in-demand digital skills. These workshops are free and open to everyone. The first workshop will be on finding and organizing files along with responsible behavior guidelines for the internet. It is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Rector First United Methodist Church located at the corner of 3rd and Main Streets.
