The Rector City Council met on Tuesday, Sept 6. at 6 p.m. because the regular meeting would have fallen on Labor Day evening. The group has grown accustomed to meeting at the Rector Community Center which allows room for guests and those making special presentations.

THE FACTS “People have a misconception when it comes to dilapidated houses causing an eye-sores in Rector. The City Council cannot declare a house offensive in appearance and the property owners/ residents derelict in civic responsibility and then get a bulldozer and tear the house down because it looks terrible.

Maynard’s 42nd annual Pioneer Days is set to get underway Sept. 15-17 in that community. Things will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 15 with “School Night” at 5 p.m. at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue Friday at 5 p. with a delicious chicken ‘n dumplings or hamburger plate, the announcement of Pioneer Prince and Princess, baked goods contest and auction. At 7 p.m. a free concert will feature Marco Cooper and Southern Rain. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, followed by the posting of colors, blacksmithing demonstrations, Show N Shine, craft vendors and concessions. There will be contests and live music by the Legendary Places with parade and contest winners announced at 12:30 p.m. and a turkey shoot at 1 p.m.

LITTLE ROCK –On Monday, Sept. 12, Eric Hagler, executive director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL), announced that a brand-new draw game called LOTTO is launching next week. Ticket sales will begin Sunday for the first drawing on Sept. 21.

The Little Rock VA Regional Office’s next Virtual Claims Clinic for Arkansas Veterans is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22.

Three Rivers College will be hosting a College Transfer Fair on Sept. 28 to give students and the community a chance to meet with fouryear colleges about their programs, transfer/admissions requirements, scholarships, and financial aid.
