School safety top priority at Piggott School District

Times-Democrat News Staff According to Piggott School District Superintendent Freddie Bowen, “The SRO’s are working with the police department to get active shooter training after school in the next few weeks. The training will be at high school and elementary buildings after school.” The school has a crisis manual that administrators, SRO’s, and counselors have put together in case of any type of situation that may arise.

Rector HOSA to partner with Be The Match

Rector High School student Isabella Mosley and school nurse Kocaina Blount attended the National HOSA Future Health Professionals Conference in Nashville earlier this summer. The focus of the conference was Be The Match, whose mission is saving lives through cellular therapy. Be The Match was created in 1987 to expand people’s access to life-saving blood stem cell transplants.

St. Bernards Total Life Healthcare celebrates National PACE Month

Maynard Pioneer Days planned

Maynard’s 42nd annual Pioneer Days is set to get underway Sept. 15-17 in that community. Things will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 15 with “School Night” at 5 p.m. at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue Friday at 5 p. with a delicious chicken ‘n dumplings or hamburger plate, the announcement of Pioneer Prince and Princess, baked goods contest and auction. At 7 p.m. a free concert will feature Marco Cooper and Southern Rain. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, followed by the posting of colors, blacksmithing demonstrations, Show N Shine, craft vendors and concessions. On the mainstage will be political speakers. There will be contests and live music by the Legendary Places with parade and contest winners announced at 12:30 p.m. and a turkey shoot at 1 p.m. Those wanting more information may call 870-647-2701.
